Earth and Fire
I see you look into me
Confusion and flashes of thunder
You told me
“I always get what I want”
I think what you want is too close to the ground.
Before, I would have tilled and toiled
For you, with you
So I understand the dismay.
You're stretching to reach
My flickering shadow
Dawning on the realisation
That i’m in the air
—-
You’re smashing your foundation into timber
Setting them alight
To make smoke signals
Hoping they turn into clouds
that some gesture you make
will compel me back to earth.
I don’t think you will get what you want this time
What you want, and where you want me
This time
Is too close to the ground
