Messiah
1. I imagine, it’d take a legion to pry my lips from the tops of your feet. 2. I’ve grown accustomed to drowning them in my tears and basking you in expensive, unfamiliar scents that mask me. 3. I’ve slit my throat and torn myself into offerings. 4. My love has always meant sacrifice and I’ve burned my flesh to feed you. 5. The gates are closing. The pedestal comes crashing down. 6. Yet how to love you as myself remains unknown. 7. I’ve tried to atone for your demons. 8. Instead I wound you with good intention or pierce your side with echoes of loaded words. 9. You ask me why I need you to be God. 10. I can’t answer, not like this. 11. Not still on my knees.
