Fool's Gold

If you didn’t already
Keep your mind in cages
I would have chained you
To the mirror
And watched you break
Yourself free.

But you fear yourself.
You can’t see yourself,
So you won’t see me.

If you weren’t afraid
Of secret languages
I’d carve hieroglyphics
into the creases of your back
And beat hidden meaning
To the drum of your ear

But you fear yourself
You can’t hear yourself
So you won’t hear me.

If you didn’t have to be on top
I would lay you down
I would have released you
From that cage
I’m sure.

But you fear yourself
You can’t let go of yourself
So you let go of me.

If you left your ego at the door
You would have seen
You had the power to bend the
Bricks and
Break the floor.
But you’ve made a shelter out of stone.

(Out of respect)
I won’t break it.

But
I would have made you a home.

Why couldn’t you look at me and see that the lights were always on
And truth is always near? by
the way I’d feed you,
Learn you, reach you
Elevate, and teach you

Your children would call you king.

If you just let me
Make you see
What I see.

But you fear yourself
You don’t love yourself
And you can’t love me.
